RUPP Mini-Cycle 1970 Owner’s Manual

This original Rupp Roadster was left in a barn in working condition. Found and restored some 30 years later, it is a working collectible. The model year is 1970. In 2006, under a layer of dust, it appeared to have very few hours of use. The Rupp Mini-Cycle was purchased from the original owner. It had been well-cared for. Having kept it for less than a year, I changed the fluids, tested it, detailed it, and used it less than one hour. It was a pleasure to restore, but needed to be in the hands of a collector.

All original are gas tank, seat (cover and foam), lights, engine and torque converter, carburetor, kill button, light switch, frame, foot pegs, and more. Non-original items added are tail light and exhaust system. These were off-the-shelf new parts and attached to the original license plate holder without modification. The headlamp is original, marked “Rupp, SAE-N-69” on its chrome housing.

Motor was the original 4-horsepower Tecumseh engine Model HS40-55282B, Serial 0177 13278. Original Rupp Trials 3.00-10 knobby tires were pliable. Rear tire tube was replaced as well as accelerator cable and hand grips. Original chrome fenders and wheel rims, with no bent or missing spokes, were polished.

Came with the original 1970 owner’s manual and original bill of sale, plus service records from 1973 and 1974. Sold with the original owner’s cancelled check showing purchase price new $258 and dated June 22, 1971. Sale included the original Tecumseh engine owner’s manual, Texas motor vehicle title, license plate registration, and sales receipt showing 3% sales tax rate. Also included were letters between the owner and the manufacturer regarding parts and service (sure to be of historic value).

Chassis serial number as stated on original decal under seat cushion: Rupp Mfg. Inc., C-136623, Mansfield, Ohio. This was the top of the line of the Rupp models: Roadster, Enduro, Scrambler, Sprint, and Chopper in descending order.

American Legend Aircraft Company Introduces its Legend Cub Special

SULPHUR SPRINGS, TEXAS, APRIL 3, 2006 – American Legend Aircraft Company announced today the introduction of its Legend Cub Special, a variant of the Legend Cub 2-place sport aircraft. The Legend Cub Special is an evolutionary next step in the development of a family of aircraft produced by the company.

American Legend Aircraft Company offers the new Legend Cub Special with a variety of standard features. Most notably, the Legend Cub Special introduces a new two-tone paint scheme. Cubs have always been notable for being all yellow with a black lightning bolt on the side of the fuselage. However, the original Cub Special, first produced in 1947, donned a two-color fuselage reminiscent of the Aeronca Champ yellow and orange pattern. The Legend Cub Special for 2006, sports a similar two-tone paint scheme incorporating a sweeping curve that divides top and bottom of the fuselage.

In addition to the new paint, the Legend Cub Special comes with a number of customer-demanded features. These include a special leather interior, adjustable pilot air vents, an interior light, and a Nav/Comm avionics package. Instrumentation includes the Garmin SL40 Comm and GTX 327 transponder, a panel-dock-mounted Garmin 396 color moving map GPS, and a PS Engineering intercom. Other standard features of the Legend Cub Special are strobe, Nav, interior and landing lights; an air/oil separator; an oil quick drain; a composite propeller; and large 8.00 x 6 tires. An optional EFIS package includes the new Dynon FlightDEK-D180.

With the introduction of the Legend Cub Special, American Legend has taken a similar next step approach as did William Piper with his historic J-3 Cub. Piper followed the J-3 with the PA-11 Cub Special (also L-18 military variant). Today’s descendent of the immortal Cub, the Legend Cub Special combines the best of the old and the best of the new. The Legend Cub Special from American Legend Aircraft Company is an enhanced version of the proven, standard Legend Cub.

American Legend Aircraft Company is a manufacturer of recreational aircraft that meet Light-Sport Aircraft certification requirements. Their Legend Cub is 2-place design derived from the classic Cub. It is powered by a 100-hp Continental O–200 engine with electric start. A variety of options are available including choice of interior, avionics, wheels, floats, etc. The Legend Cub is bringing back the enjoyment and economics of general aviation aircraft to today’s flying enthusiasts.

American Legend Aircraft Company Selects Dynon FlightDEK for its Legend Cub and Legend Cub Special

SULPHUR SPRINGS, TEXAS, APRIL 3, 2006 – American Legend Aircraft Company announced today it will offer the Dynon FlightDEK-D180 combination EFIS and engine monitor on its Legend Cub. Additionally, the company announced that the D180 will become standard equipment on the company’s high-end Legend Cub Special package. Features of the package include the display of fuel flow and carburetor inlet temperature.

Dynon Avionics manufactures the FlightDEK-D180, an instrument derived from the company’s popular EFIS-D100 electronic flight information and EMS-D120 engine monitoring systems. The D180 features a large 7-inch diagonal, sunlight readable, color LCD screen. It provides as many as ten primary flight instruments in combination with up to 16 engine gauges. The D180 is a single box solution for light aircraft with limited panel space. Its split screen capability and interchangeable views facilitate paging through a variety flight and engine data.

Ron Ulbrich, marketing director at Dynon stated, “Our customers have set very high expectations. They have indicated their desire to have all the functionality of our instruments in one box. With the D180, we have committed to delivering on their expectations.”

With the announcement, American Legend enjoys the advantage of being the first FlightDEK-D180 customer. American Legend previously broke ground by installing the first Dynon 7-inch display in its 3rd customer delivery of a Legend Cub. The reliability and suitability of these instruments have proven to be very appealing to Legend customers. Tim Elliott, president of American Legend commented, “You can certainly fly a Cub without sophisticated electronics. Part of the pleasure of flying low-and-slow is in enhancing your skills as a pilot. Dynon provides our customers with an excellent set of tools for doing this.”
